Terling
Village, Essex.
The Southend Section cycling past beautifully kept old cottages and
colour washed houses.
Terling Place,
a splendid Georgian House, is the Strutt family home. In 1836 a
hereditary peerage was granted to the head of the family, who became
Lord Rayleigh. Also there is a windmill where a man was whirled round on
the sails on the film "Oh Mr Porter", starring Will Hay. A wide
ford across the River Ter is 3ft deep and has caught out many motorists.
All Saints Church has an unusual sundial on the brick tower.
