Our first featured rider is our Secretary Bernie Curtis who has been carrying out that role calmly and efficiently since early in 2002. He retired from his job as a London tourist guide in March 2001. Before retirement his cycling was mainly to work from home in Harold Wood, around London and in charity rides, now he rides with us and also the N.E.Essex 40+ group. He normally rides the Dawes Galaxy you can see in the photo, but he also rides an Orbit Illusion in summer and has two mountain bikes. When he's not cycling he is active in the London Cycling Campaign planning cycle routes in Havering and he also spends part of the week looking after his two grandchildren. He is famous for succumbing to the temptation of too many pints of Abbot Ale at lunch and getting dropped on the afternoon ride as a result.
