2015 Events

These were our special open events for 2015.

Non-members are very welcome to enter open events and free membership* for the rest of the calendar year is offered to riders who have never been members (please hand a completed membership form to the ride organiser).  

Events

We marked the founding of the club on 5th April 1951 with some special events in early April each year.

Tue 7 April 2015: Founders' Day Events - St Albans
 Start: Inn on the Park, Verulamium Park, St. Albans - see event details:  PDF
 Time: Met at 10:00 am. 
 Events: Morning: Route Planning & Cycling Competition
 Afternoon: Speed Judging Competition
 Entry: Members only - no fee.

Tue 14 April 2015: Founders' Day Ride - Surrey & Sussex
 Start: Anywhere on the route. Free parking at 4 locations - see event details: DOC   PDF
 Time: Follow route to Tanhouse Farm to arrive by 10:30 am for coffee.  You can join a group ride here at 11:00 am to continue your ride to Newdigate for lunch. 
 Route: Scenic figure of eight through Surrey and North Sussex lanes. A map, route directions, and GPX file can be found on theSection's web pages. Lunch at Newdigate - ride both loops or one loop.
 Distance: 62 km
 Entry: No fee, but entry by 7 April is essential to receive route map and directions. Entry by email is acceptable  - provide your name, address, phone number and preferred pace if joining a group ride (11 or 12.5 mph).

Sun 2 Aug: Prudential RideLondon 100 club challenge
 Start: The Olympic Park
 Time: tba
 Route: The London - Surrey 100 mile course.  All riders complete the 100 mile course and finish together on The Mall.
 Distance: 100 miles.  One club team of 4 men and one team of 4 women.
 Entry: £58.00 each by 6 May.  ENTRY IS NOW CLOSED - WE HAVE ENTERED A TEAM OF 3 MEN (1 withdrawn due to injury).

Tue 18 Aug: Sussex Weald 100km
 Start: You are invited to take part in this ride from Southwater Country Park (near Horsham). Cafe at start. Free parking.
 Time: Any time between 9:15 & 9:45
 Route: The route follows a scenic circuit between the Forest Ridge and South Downs. OS map 198.  Suggested elevenses at Cuckfield, lunch at Bramber, tea at Barns Green.  Download entry form (doc), further details.

 Distance: 100 km
 Entry: No fee, but entry by 4 August is essential. Entry by email is acceptable - see entry form for details required.  Entry Form: DOC.

Tue 7 July: Mid Essex Tour 100km
 Start: Stondon Massey: Bricklayers Arms (OS167 TL585005)
 Time: Any time between 10:00 & 11:00.  Finish by 18:00.
 Route: The route passes through mid-Essex with various watering holes along the way. 
 It uses quiet lanes and back roads without too much climbing (we do not have many mountains in Essex). 
 It is normally a sociable day with plenty of chatting between riders. The full route is on OS 167 and a route sheet will be provided.  View a GPS trace of the route or download the GPX file for your GPS device. 
 Distance: 100 km  
 Entry: £3.00 with S.A.E. to Peter Sears by 4 July, includes tea/coffee en-route and a certificate for finishers.  
 Organiser: Essex 'A' section:  Peter Sears.

Thur 16 July: Essex 100 mile Challenge
 Start: Stondon Massey: Bricklayers Arms (OS167 TL585005)
 Time: Start between 08:00 & 08:30.  Finish by 18:30.
 Route: The route (amended 1/7/2015) runs clockwise through Toot Hill, Moreton, Old Harlow, Stanstead Abbotts, Barwick, Nasty, Buntingford, Anstey, Clavering, Henham, Great Dunmow, High Easter and Mill Green back to Stondon Massey. The full route is on OS 166 & 167 and a route sheet will be provided.  View a GPS trace of the route or download the GPX file for your GPS device. 
 Distance: 100 miles 
 Entry: £5.00 with S.A.E. to Rod Scott by 9th July, includes tea/coffee at The Bricklayers.  
 Organiser: Essex 'A' section & Mid Essex section:  Rod Scott.
