2016 Events

These were our special open events for 2016...watch this space for 2017 events.

See below for details of how to enter these events.  Curly brackets {} should be omitted when using the email addresses.

Non-members are very welcome to enter open events and free membership for the rest of the calendar year is offered to riders who have never been members (please hand a completed membership form to the ride organiser).

Completed events:

Tue 5 April 2016: Founders' Day Ride - Surrey & Sussex - club event 
We mark the founding of the club on 5th April 1951 with some special events in early April each year.
 Start: Anywhere on the route. Free parking at 4 locations - see event details: 
 Time: Follow route to Tanhouse Farm for coffee 10:00 to 10:30 am.  You can join a group ride here at 10:30 am to continue your ride to Newdigate for lunch. 
 Route: Scenic figure of eight through Surrey and North Sussex lanes. A map, route directions, and GPX file can be found on the Section's web pages. Lunch at Newdigate - ride both loops or one loop.
 Distance: 62 km
 Entry: No fee, but entry by 29 February is essential to receive route map and directions.  Entry by email is acceptable  - provide your name, address, phone number and preferred pace if joining a group ride (11 or 12.5 mph).

Sunday 19 June 2016: CTC Essex Triennial Veterans' Ride - CTC event
 Start: Mountnessing Village Hall
 Time: Between 08:30 and 09:00. Small groups will set off at intevals and be led at an average speed of 12 mph to ensure arrival times for refreshments are evenly staggered.
 Route: 25 miles to Aythorpe Roding and then two circular routes of 25 miles from there before returning to Mountnessing for the final 25 miles.  
11', lunch and tea all at Aythorpe Roding Village Hall. 

 Distance:100 miles 
 Entry: £15 fee plus cost of 3 meals   select '100 miles Essex CTC'

Thur 7 July: The Essex Tour 75 miles - club event (replaces the 100 Km event)
 Start: Stondon Massey: Bricklayers Arms (OS167 TL585005)
 Time: Any time between 09:30 & 10:30.  Finish by 18:00.
 Route: It will be a totally new route and members from all 40+ groups will be welcome.
 Distance: 75 miles 
 Entry: £3.00 with S.A.E. to Peter Sears by 30 June, includes tea/coffee en-route.

Tue 16 Aug: Sussex Weald 100/100 - open event
 The events This year we are running 100K and 100M rides. Start and finish venues are the same as previous years, as are the intermediate refreshment stops. The 100K event is identical to all previous years. 100M riders will be able to use two additional refreshment stops. 
 Start/End: Southwater Country Park (near Horsham). Cafe at start. Free parking.
 Time: Any time between 9:00 & 9:45.  The 100M event will start at 9:00 sharp.
 Route: Full details of both events can be viewed and downloaded from the Section's event page.
 Distance: 100 km or 100 miles
 Entry: No fee, but entry by 4 August is essential. Entry by email is acceptable - see entry form for details required.

Thur 25 Aug: An Ugley Ride - open event
 Start/End: Ugley Village Hall on B1383 approx 4 miles north of Bishops Stortford, Grid Reference TL 515 274.
 Time: Start at any time between 10.00 & 11.00.  We must vacate the hall by 5.30 as there is a further booking at 6.00.
 Route: Mainly on lanes passing through Brent Pelham, Great Chishill, Shepreth, Ickleton and Barley.
 Distance: 62 miles on the map but yet to be measured on the road.
 Entry: £4.00. Enter in advance using entry form by 18th August, includes route description, tea & biscuits at start & finish. A decent turnout will result in further refreshments at the finish.  Entry Form:
