Today’s ride was to another new venue for the club, and seven riders set off from LGC Fountain on quite a warm and humid morning, the seven being myself, Andy E, Mia, Kris, Ronnie, Alan Brosnan and Paul Fletcher.

The route out was via Arlesey, Clifton, Shefford, Cardington and Cople where Alan and Paul turned off to head back to Hitchin, leaving just five to continue on into the wilds beyond Barford.

The roads become much quieter North of the A421, making for a very pleasant ride. on arrival at the golf club we found Lorraine and her husband John, who had driven to Great Barford to make the most of the quiet roads.

Lunch was taken on the newly extended patio, where we spent a most convivial hour before setting of for the return. Andy left us at Blunham, taking the cycleway to Sandy, and we stopped at Franklin’s Farm to check out their new cafe, which is a very strong contender for a Thursday ride destination. Excellent cake, and coffee, apparently…
After cake and a cuppa Ronnie set off on his own, needing to make quicker progress, leaving just three to take the usual route back via Northill, Ickwellbury etc.
Official mileage for the ride was 51, covered at an average of 13.7 mph.
