Tuesday 22nd April. A good turnout today on a beautiful, sunny day. So many that we decided to form into 3 groups. There was some muttering that we should avoid the ford in Sporhams Lane, but the path around the ford was dry despite yesterday’s showers. Paper mill Lock was also busy with many of the Easy Riders there too. The ride to lunch was pleasant with not much traffic around, even in Witham. Seventeen at the pub, The Swan in Little Totham. Service was a bit slow although the landlord told us he had been away to try and sort out a lost bank card. The return was via Great Totham and Wickham Bishops. The traffic was busier as we caught the school traffic. I had a minor mishap as we started to climb up to the Turnpike. As I changed gear my chain jammed and I couldn’t turn the pedals. After a few minutes we were able to free the chain and back on our way. The Turnpike was busy. Just under 55 miles for me. Trevor
Thursday 24th April. Peter C, Terry, Norman, Dave and I left the Turnpike early. Norman and Dave went their separate ways, whilst Peter led us on to Langford museum of power where we met Jon, Ralph, Colin Duff and wife. The new café was splendid and part of the lottery grant of 1.7m to the museum. The main party joined us for a long and rural ride up as far as Ranks Green, before heading south for Terling where we sat outside in the sun at the Rayleigh Arms. Many thanks to Keith for leading and setting just the right pace for a relaxing spring ride. Peter W
