Nine of us met at The Fountain in Broadway Gardens this morning, in the shade of a tree. Another hot day. Mia, Nige, Alan, Jack, Steve, Kevin, myself Stuart, Angie and Adrian who took the lead set off at 10:30. Ten minutes into the ride Steve came off his bike on an off-road path but fortunately, both Steve and his bike were not too seriously injured. We continued to Ashwell via Bygrave where we were met by Geoff P and Peter. The group split after Ashwell, with me, Angie, Geoff and Peter taking the direct route via Steeple Morden and Littlington with the rest going via Guilden Morden, Shingay, Abington Pigotts and Litlington. We all met up again for lunch in The Hoops where we had some nice pub grub if the portions were a bit on the generous side. Afterwards, we set off back in the same groups. Adrian’s group going via Hinxworth, Edworth and Henlow and Myself and Angie after dropping off Geoff and Peter in Ashwell, coming back via Bygrave. Another hot ride.

PS: I have just heard via WhatsApp that Alan had been knocked off his bike by a van after the A1 flyover at the roundabout at the bottom. Alan said that luckily (not sure I would use that word) the van driver had hit his front wheel and that he had crashed into the side of the van breaking the wing mirror with his shoulder and hit the ground with his head and bum. Alan felt that he had had a lucky escape because if he was a few feet further along, he would have been hit full side on and things could have been a lot more serious. He managed to cycle back home, about 7 miles, with a bruised shoulder, backside and sore neck. He feels that he had a lucky escape.
