A day of mixed fortunes I think it’s safe to say…
Eight of us left the fountain, myself (Adrian) leading, with Mia, John H, Richard, Geoff H, Jack, Lorraine and Mick. We had a leisurely ride out to Cardington, not wanting to arrive too early, only to find that the kitchen was closed.

We discovered though that we could obtain sausage rolls and samosas and have them heated, plus drinks and cakes, so it worked out alright.

At lunch we were joined by Alan, who unwittingly passed us in Henlow and arrived before us, and Mick’s brother Peter who had ridden out independently, so making ten in all.

Alan, as usual took the direct route back but for the main group on the way back we suffered a bit of a mishap, caused by a couple of errant motorists.

Fortunately involving them in the subsequent coming together of a number of cyclists. At least two ended up on the deck, with bruises and grazes to show for it, but we were going quite slowly so thankfully damage was limited.

After a short break to assess and recover, we carried on without further incident – aside from being offered apples by a gentleman in Southill… I think most of us tried to take a few!
‘Official’ distance was 34.5 miles at a little under 13 mph
